Kannapolis, is a city in NC spanning both Rowan and Cabarrus Counties. In the heart of NASCAR country, it is the hometown of legendary driver Dale Earnhardt. The history of Kannapolis also includes the textile company Cannon Mills, once the area’s largest employer.
After the closure of the Cannon Mills in the early 2000s, Kannapolis underwent a significant revitalization. The city has invested millions of dollars into new infrastructure, including the construction of a new downtown area called “Village Park,” which features shops, restaurants, and a performing arts center.
The city is also home to the North Carolina Research Campus, a massive research center aimed at advancing science and innovation in agriculture, nutrition, and health. The campus collaborates with various universities and private companies.
Other notable features of Kannapolis are the Cannon Ballers, Village Park, Revitalized Downtown and the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame.
